Mong Pong Sayadaw’s 60th birthday to be celebrated for 5 days

The 60th birthday of Mong Pong Sayadaw will be celebrated for 5 days in Loonlane religious region, said hilly missionary Sayadaw U Sukha Meinta.

Mong Pong Sayadaw’s 60th birthday will be held from 1 January to 5 January 2024 at Loonlane religious region located in eastern Shan State’s Tachilek township, Mong Pong (ka) village tract, Par Sar village.

“As usual, the birthday celebration will take place from 1 January to 5 January as a donation ceremony. Sayadaw will preach but no separate plan to receive the public’s homage,” said Sayadaw.

According to the agenda, paying homage to Buddha at Loonlane Pagoda will be taken place at 4:00am from 1 January to 3 January, offering foods to the Buddha at garden, donation of pieces of rock at Putao Pagoda at 9:00am, preaching ceremony of Mong Pong Sayadaw at garden preaching stage at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, ceremony of paying homage to the Buddha at Nee Pagoda along with Mong Pong Sayadaw at 6:00pm.

The agenda for 4 January includes paying homage to the Buddha at Loonlane Pagoda and offering foods to the Buddha at garden at 4:00am, offering holy umbrella to Pagoda of Sayadaw’s 60th birthday on 11:00am, preaching at garden preaching stage at 3:00pm and paying homage to the Buddha at Nee Pagoda at 6:00pm along with Mong Pong Sayadaw.

The agenda for 5 January is paying homage to the Buddha at Loonlane Pagoda and offering foods to the Buddha at garden at 4:00am, carrying Mong Pong Sayadaw by litter from garden preaching stage to bathing stage.

Mong Pong Sayadaw will not speak on his birthday 5 January and the public can come to pay homage to Sayadaw at Nee Pagoda on 6 January at 9:00am.

During days of the birthday celebration, selling goods is prohibited in restricted areas but allowed at Mahabawdi Pagoda campus in Loonsai. – Thit Taw/ZS
