Myanmar National Human Rights Commission joins 19th Annual Meeting of Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum (SEANF)

The Philippines hosted the 19th Annual Meeting of Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum (SEANF) on 28 and 29 November in a hybrid format.
Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Chairman U Hla Myint, Vice Chairperson Dr Nanda Hmun and relevant officials including the commission members joined virtually and the national human rights institution representatives of forum member countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Timor-Leste attended the meeting in person.
During the meeting, the representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines discussed the role of national human rights commissions in preventing the stateless and protecting the human rights of stateless people, activities of each human right commission after the first working group meeting of forum and progresses, implementation of forum member countries under five prioritized issues of Strategic Plan 2022-2026 of the forum, cooperation between SEANF and AICHR and work plans with the collaboration of SEANF, Plan International and ANNI. Then, Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Member U Paw Lwin Sein coordinated the discussion under the topic of activities of MNHRC after the first working group meeting and major progress followed by Deputy Director-General of the MNHRC office Dr Khine Khine Win, the implementations concerning the issue “promoting and protecting human rights in business” from the SEANF Strategic Plan 2022-2026.
Then, MNHRC Chairman made proper suggestions regarding the implementation of the SEANF Strategic Plan 2022-2026. After the meeting, the Philippines Human Rights Commission handed over the 2023 Chairmanship to the Thai Human Rights Commission. — MNA
