The Ministry of Transport and Communications in Myanmar is planning to re-register cars manufactured in 1980 and earlier, which had their registrations cancelled, as classic vehicles. This initiative aims to officially preserve the value of ancient classic vehicles, allowing old classic vehicles with cancelled registrations to be registered again with a specific fine.
During the re-registration process, only vehicles that were previously registered will be eligible, and a new relevant vehicle number will be assigned. However, old vehicles that were not previously registered will not qualify for registration. The re-registration process can be completed at the respective Region/State/District Road Transport Administration Department offices within a six-month period, from 11 February to 31 July.
Following the announcement, there has been a surge in advertisements on social networking sites, offering to purchase cars with expired license books at attractive prices.
Ko Khin Maung Win, a car buyer and seller, mentioned that this statement significantly impacts the automobile landscape, providing owners of old cars with an opportunity to earn money, and may lead to the establishment of a price range for used cars. — TWA/TH
