Myanmar ships over 200,000 tonnes of rice worth $83 million to foreign markets in Dec

Myanmar conveyed 215,340 tonnes of rice and broken rice worth US$83.107 million to foreign markets in December, according to the statistics released by the Ministry of Commerce.
Myanmar’s seaborne rice exports to international trade partners amounted to $41.746 million from over 99,550 tonnes in December 2022, with over 66,190 tonnes to Asian countries and over 33,360 tonnes to European Union member countries.
Last month, Myanmar sent 18,410 tonnes to China, 26,100 to Bangladesh, 15,860 to the Philippines, 4,800 to Indonesia, over 620 to Malaysia, over 300 to Hong Kong and over 70 to Singapore. Moreover, Myanmar conveyed 7,550 tonnes of rice to Poland, 4,090 to Spain, 2,750 to Italy, 2,440 to Bulgaria, over 2,370 to Portugal, 1,950 to the UK, 1,500 to Belgium, 1,400 to Lithuania, over 920 to Slovenia, 1,050 to Greece, 500 each to Croatia, Lebanon and Germany, 250 each to the Netherlands and Czech, 350 to France and small volume to other European countries respectively.
In December, Myanmar exported over 139,750 tonnes of rice to China by sea and border channels. The export volume indicated a decrease of 18,200 tonnes from December.
Last month, Myanmar maritime trade saw over 47,050 tonnes of broken rice exports valued at $17.27 million, with 39,600 tonnes to EU countries and about 7,450 to China.
In December 2022, over 28,540 tonnes of broken rice worth $10.235 million were exported via cross-border points, with over 27,200 tonnes flowing to China and 1,330 to Thailand.
The overall broken rice exports through maritime and border trade routes were estimated at 75,600 tonnes, which was down by 15,000 tonnes from November’s export volume.— TWA/EMM
