Myanmar takes over alternate chair of 2024 ASEAN Committee in Beijing-ACB

Myanmar has taken its turn holding the alternate chair of 2024 ASEAN Committee in Beijing – ACB, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The first meeting of the heads of embassies of the ASEAN Committee in Beijing (ACB) for 2024 in conjunction with the ceremony to transfer the alternate chairmanship of the ACB was hosted by the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing, China, on 8 February.

The Ambassadors of ASEAN member states exchanged views on the cooperation between China and ASEAN, and the successfully implemented programmes of ACB during the term of Malaysia’s alternate chairmanship at the meeting. Afterwards, Malaysian Ambassador Mr Norman Muhamad handed over the alternate chairmanship to Myanmar Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe.

The Myanmar Ambassador, alternate chair of the ACB, clarified the issues to be addressed during Myanmar’s term of alternate chairmanship. Additionally, the Myanmar Ambassador stressed the importance of continuous contacts among Beijing-based embassies of ASEAN countries. He expressed his firm belief that ASEAN and China would promote cooperation with each other as the year 2024 has been designated to enhance cooperation between them. — ASH/MKKS/TH
