Myanmar’s traditional woven textiles attract local market; salesare normal

Myanmar‘s traditional woven textiles have gained popularity in local market and sales have been normal, according to sources from weaving cotton wears industry.

“Weaving products have gained domestic interest. There are orders from Myanmar in Thailand. Sale of some items has increased,” said a weaving cotton wears trader.

Majority of weaving workshops have been found in Myitkyina, Shwebo, Mandalay and Kanbalu and from these places, a wide variety of woven textiles such as male and female longyi, Burmese cotton wears, Anyarsaung (blanket) and Kachin longyi are distributed.

There is a market of woven wears in Yangon that can also attract foreigners, he said.

“Foreigners call Myanmar‘s woven textiles handmade. They value and use them in making decorations for their houses. For example, they use tablecloths and scarves in decorating their living rooms,” he said.
