Over 13,000 vehicles apprehended for excessive speeding on Yangon-Mandalay expressway in 2023

In 2023, the Nay Pyi Taw Expressway Police Force Headquarters reported more than 13,000 arrests of vehicles exceeding the speed limit on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway. It is reported that vehicles exceeding the speed limit on the expressway undergo measurement and inspection using speed-measuring machines. Images of these speeding vehicles are captured, assigned personnel are dispatched to toll gates and mini toll gates along the main road, and action is being taken.
The speed limits on the expressway are as follows: 100 kilometres per hour for small vehicles, 90 kilometres per hour for passenger express vehicles, and the speed limit is set at 60 kilometres per hour for light trucks like Hijet equipped with a telematics system.
The vehicles seized on the highway were processed under the 2010 Vehicle Management Law. It is reported that further action is being taken in the Vehicle Courts of Hlegu, Phyu, Zabuthiri, Meiktila, and TadaU Townships. — TWA/KZW
