Premium Myittha onion price starts falling

The price of premium Myittha onion (large size) dipped to K3,500 per viss on 15 March after it was stable at K3,700 during the past ten days of market opening.
About 1.08 million visses of onions from various regions entered the Yangon market between 11 and 15 March. The wholesale prices of onions are K2,700-K3,500 per viss.
It touched a high of K3,800 per viss on 27-28 February.
Meanwhile, Seikphyu onion was valued at K2,400 per viss on 15 March, plunging drastically from K3,200 per viss on 4 March.
The highest prices of onion were K1,850-K2,000 per viss in Pakokku, Seikphyu and Myingyan markets.
Myittha onion was valued at K3,000 per viss on 15 March in Mandalay’s market. Although they fetch the highest price in the market, they are not included in the traders’ inventory list.
The prices of summer onions peaked at K5,100 per viss in December 2023, whereas monsoon onions hit a high of K4,400 for Myingyan onion and K4,800 for Myittha onion. — TWA/KK
