Proposed Geosites for Mount Popa National Geopark inspected

The MNREC deputy minister and party inspect the proposed Geosites for Mount Popa National Geopark yesterday.

Chairman of Geopark Working Committee Deputy Minister U Min Min Oo of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation inspected the proposed Geosites for Mount Popa National Geopark in Kyaukpadaung Township of Mandalay Region yesterday.
During the visit, the deputy minister told the officials to set up a National Geopark which plays a key role in the establishment of UNESCO Global Geopark. He also said that he conducted a ground survey to approve the locations out of 16 Geosites in the forest areas in Mount Popa area proposed by Myanmar Geosciences Society to the ministry for Mount Popa National Geopark to become the first National Geopark as there is no Local Geopark & National Geopark. Popa area is a very important cultural and geological area in Myanmar.
Then, the deputy minister and party inspected the Sandagu Forest and deer park, Medical Plant and museum, Lahar, Volcanic Mud Flow, Augite Andesite Stone Forest and Fossil Museum. —MNA
