The Peterhof Palace was built by King Peter within 10 years to show the powerful strength of Russia after conquering the Russia-Sweden war. UNESCO recognized the palace as a historical site in 1990. It is formed with 173 water fountains and golden statues. King Peter used it as the summer palace. A canal was dug directly from the sea to the foot of the palace. The design of water fountains shows the wonderful architectural works of Russians.
In the Second World War, the palace was damaged by bomb attacks, damaging many parts.
In 1945, the palace was reopened for public recreation. The palace and water fountains were renovated in 1950, and they are under maintenance up to date. The water fountains are open in summer only.
