Myanmar delegation led by State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo arrived back in Myanmar on Thursday after attending the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing of the People’s Republic of China on 17 and 18 October.
General Mya Tun Oo was accompanied by Union Minister at the Union Government Office 2 U Ko Ko Hlaing, Deputy Minister for Industry U Yin Maung Nyunt, high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation and the Ministry of Industry during the trip to China.
The Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation marked the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) under the Theme “High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity”. Moreover, during the forum, three high-level forums on connectivity, green development and digital economy, and six thematic forums were also held.
Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the forum at China Great Hall and delivered a keynote speech on 18 October. At noon, the Myanmar delegation attended the High-Level Forum on Digital Economy held at the China National Convention Centre (CNCC).
At the forum, Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo participated as a Speaker together with Digital Economy Ministers from 15 BRI partner countries under the topic of “The Opportunities of Digital Economy for shared benefits and mutual learning”.
Moreover, Union Minister at the Union Government Office 2 U Ko Ko Hlaing and Deputy Minister for Industry U Yin Maung Nyunt attended the Thematic Session on People-to-people Bonds while Permanent Secretary U Hla Maung Thein of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation to High-Level Forum on Green Development. The third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation released joint statements “Beijing Initiative on the Belt and Road International Digital Economy Cooperation” and “Initiative on International Trade and Economic Cooperation Framework for Digital Economy and Green Development”.
On 17 October, the deputy minister for Industry met officials of the China Association of Science and Technology and discussed potential cooperation in electronic vehicle maintenance training at vocational schools of the ministry, mineralogy and industrial technology.
Additionally, Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo and Union Minister U Ko Ko Hlaing attended the dinner reception hosted by the Chinese President on the evening of 17 October. The forum was attended by state leaders of 25 countries, the UN Secretary-General and ministerial officials and representatives of over 150 countries and representatives and experts of over 30 international organizations, totalling some 4,000 delegates. — MNA/KTZH
