Science and technology for further development of ASEAN community: MoST Union Minister

The 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation in progress in Brunei Darussalam, attended by Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Kyaw yesterday.

The science and technology sectors are essential for the further development of the ASEAN community, said Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw during the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation, held at the Empire Hotel & Country Club in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, yesterday.
In addition to the ministerial meeting, the Union minister also attended the opening ceremony of the Digital Future Conference.
At the opening ceremony, the CEO of the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI) of Brunei Darussalam, Ir. Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar delivered a welcoming speech.
Then, Minister of Transport, Information, and Communications of Brunei Darussalam Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary Mustapha, who is a alternative chairman of the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation, gave an opening speech.
Next, the ministerial meeting, the Digital Future Conference and the booths were opened.
Afterwards, Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN Secretariat Satvinder Singh gave a keynote address titled the Role of Innovation in Overcoming Challenges and Securing Opportunities in ASEAN.
The ASEAN Ministers of Science, Technology and Innovation and guests visited the booths related to ASEAN Tech and the Digital Future Conference.
Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Kyaw attended the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in the afternoon.
On the topic of “ASEAN Strategy for Carbon Neutrality and Sustainable Growth Enabled by Science, Technology and Innovation (STI)”, he exchanged views on Myanmar’s policy, current actions and future technology cooperation in the ASEAN region.
Next, the participants approved the discussions and presentations of the 83rd ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Committee.
The Union minister and the attendees emphasized the issues of cooperation in research activities that can be supported in the field of science and technology and innovation for the further development of the ASEAN community. — MNA/KZL
