Shan State welcomes nearly 1 mln domestic and foreign tourists

During the eight months from January to August 2023, more than 960,000 domestic and foreign tourists visited Shan State, including more than 40,000 foreign tourists, according to U Htin Aung Naing, Director of Hotel and Tourist Information Department (Shan State).
Compared to the eight months from January to August 2022, the number of tourists has increased by more than three hundred thousand.
“Shan State is the most visited region in Myanmar. In particular, they mainly visit the southern part of Shan State including Taunggyi, Kalaw, Pindaya and Inlay.
“In 2022, the number of tourists visiting Shan State from January to August 2022 is more than 660,000, and this year the number has increased to 960,000. Out of that number, there are more than 40,000 foreign tourists,” U Thin Aung Naing said.
A total of 400 hotels, motels and guest houses are situated in Shan State, and currently, 337 are operating, so southern Shan State is a region that can attract tourists all the year round.
Currently, Kalaw in southern Shan State is being developed and implemented as a tourist town, and Chinese and Russian language courses have also been opened as basic language courses for employees working in hotels and motels so that foreign tourists can visit without difficulty. — ASH/KZL
