U Tin Wa, a member of the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees, has announced that during the Maha Thingyan Festival and the celebration of Myanmar New Year, which falls on 17 April, the Shwedagon Pagoda in Dagon Township will be open daily from 5 am to 9 pm.
“The Pagoda will be open daily to accommodate the numerous pilgrims engaging in meritorious deeds during the Maha Thingyan Festival,” stated U Tin Wa. “Additionally, there will be a programme where Sayadaws will give the Nine Precepts to the congregation at the pagoda’s prayer hall. Plans are also underway for religious groups and donors to donate sticky rice balls and Satuditha (Charity feast) foods at the pagoda. On Myanmar New Year’s Day, an early meal will be offered to Ovadacariya Sayadaws, and New Year Satuditha donations will be made at the Ancient Buddha Prayer Hall.” — ASH/MKKS
