Taninthayi Kyunsu Township to start 10.8MW hydropower, solar projects

The Taninthayi regional government has announced that projects to generate 10.8 megawatts of electricity from hydropower and solar energy will commence in Kyunsu Township, Myeik District, Taninthayi Region.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 26 February between the Taninthayi regional government and Myanmar Renewable Energy Company Limited to initiate preliminary studies for the projects at the earliest opportunity.
Despite the presence of the Nawarat Lake hydroelectric power plant in Kyunsu Township, additional power generation projects are being pursued due to inadequate electricity distribution.
As Kyunsu Township in Myeik District, Taninthayi Region, is remote and isolated, plans are underway to provide electricity since it is not currently connected to the national power grid. — ASH/TKO
