For the week from 10 to 17 January 2024, the prices of black gram, pigeon pea, onion, and chili pepper declined.
Onion
Bayintnaung Wholesale market saw the supply of 240,000 visses of onions on 17 January 2024. The wholesale prices ranged from K1,100 to K3,300 per viss depending on the quality, size, and producing areas (Seikphyu, Myittha, and Myingyan) that day. The figures reflected a drop of K1,300-K1,700 per viss within 15 days. The highest price in the Seikphyu market was K1,800 with an entry of K57,500 viss, while the onion fetched only K800-K900 per viss in the Myingyan market that day.
Garlic
The prices of garlic from Aungban, Shan State, stood at K14,500-K15,700 per viss depending on varieties and qualities, whereas Kyukok garlic prices plunged to K9,000-K9,300 per viss on 17 January.
Potato
Chinese potato prices fetched K2,600-K2,900 per viss on 17 January.
Chili Pepper
The wholesale prices of chili peppers were K10,700-K13,000 per viss for long chili pepper and Moehtaung variety on 17 January.
Those red chilies processed in cold storage fetched K13,500-K14,500 per viss. The price of bell peppers from Sinphyukyun was setat K15,000 per viss.
Rice
The prices hit K78,000-K82,000 per sack of low-grade monsoon rice, K95,000 per sack of Pawkywe variety. The high-grade old Pawsan rice prices were K120,000-K180,000 per sack depending on producing areas (Pyapon, Myaungmya and Shwebo) on 17 January.
Palm Oil
For the week from 15 to 21 January 2023, the wholesale reference price for Yangon Region was set at K5,250 per viss, up by K295 per viss compared to that of the last week.
Pulses
The prices of various pulses stood at K2,985,000 per tonne of black gram (Fair Average Quality/RC), K3,285,000 per tonne of black gram (Special Quality/RC), K3,447,500 per tonne of pigeon pea (red gram) RC, K3,830 per viss of green gram, and K6,500-K6,700 per viss of chickpea in Yangon’s wholesale markets. — TWA/KK
