MoSWRR discusses reorganization of national committee on the rights of persons with disabilities

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held the coordination meeting on the reorganization of the National Committee for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the working committee and the fund management body yesterday morning in Nay Pyi Taw. At the meeting, Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khine said coordination is being carried out to continue the original duties and responsibilities of the Department of Rehabilitation. Previous disability classification and registration activities were temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  She said work to ratify the Five-Year Strategic Plan for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities would continue and the need to re-evaluate what activities face challenges and identify ways to address them by the departments. Deputy Minister U Aung Tun Khaing said his ministry could not stop the work since it constantly provides public services. If there are any suspended works for various reason, the ways will be identified to continue them. He added the continued coordination with relevant ministries, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, charities, and long-term projects to coordinate with law and regulations with all organizations. Afterwards, Deputy Director from the Vulnerable Groups Division of the Department of Rehabilitation U Ye Myo Win presented the previously-formed committee’s organization for the rights of persons with disabilities, duties and responsibilities of the active participating ministry, persons and bodies. The status of the organizations and the structure and obligations of the organizations reorganized, and the Union Minister and the Deputy Minister coordinated as necessary. — MNA
