According to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, 1,857 natural disasters were recorded nationwide during the last financial year.
In the financial year 2023-24, there were 1,857 natural disasters, with 653 instances of strong winds causing damage to over 1,000 religious schools, more than 24,000 homes, and over 68,000 households. The ministry allocated over K3.289 billion to assist the victims. Activities for disaster prevention and awareness are also ongoing in areas susceptible to natural disasters.
Furthermore, eighteen houses were toppled by strong winds in various states and regions, including Sagaing, Taninthayi, Bago, Mandalay, Shan, and Nay Pyi Taw, resulting in partial destruction of 174 dwellings and affecting 721 individuals. — TWA/MKKS
