Strong winds damage almost 22,000 houses in 2023-24

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement has reported that in the financial year 2023–2024, strong winds caused damage to nearly 22,000 houses.
Throughout this financial year, strong winds occurred approximately 650 times, resulting in the destruction of around 21,700 homes, as well as causing fatalities and injuries.
Presently, the ministry, in collaboration with relevant administrative bodies and the public, is undertaking the repair of houses susceptible to strong winds. Additionally, efforts have been made to educate the public on actions to take during strong winds and hotlines have been set up for emergency assistance requests. — TWA/MKKS
