Almost 5,000 pilgrims flock to Kyaiktiyo Pagoda daily

According to U Soe Hla, chairman of the pagoda board of trustees, there have been nearly 5,000 pilgrims visiting the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in Kyaikto Township of Mon State daily in March. Pilgrims from across the country flock to the pagoda every day, with approximately 250 buses providing transportation up and down the hill. Additionally, lodges, guesthouses, public rest houses, and hotels are open to accommodate the pilgrims.
“The path leading to the pagoda is in good condition. We receive about 5,000 pilgrims daily in March, and this number increases to around 7,000 on weekends. Thai pilgrims visit almost daily, while travellers from other foreign countries, such as China, Russia, the United States, and Britain, make up about two or three visits per day,” said U Soe Hla.
He also mentioned that around 160 mountain cars operate daily, with the fare recently increased by K1,000. Additionally, cable car services are available, especially on weekends, with fees remaining unchanged.
The Kyaiktiyo Pagoda is open to the public throughout the year. It hosts the annual Buddha Pujaniya Festival from the full moon day of Thadingyut to the full moon day of Kason. — ASH/MKKS
