Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn delivered a lecture on combating media misinformation and the media’s role in nation-building at the University of Nursing (Yangon) yesterday.
Faculty members and students from medical universities, midwife schools, and other healthcare institutions attended the talk.
The session commenced with a documentary video highlighting strategies to counter media misinformation and the significance of media in national development.
During his address, the Union minister stressed the importance of critically evaluating information shared on social media platforms to distinguish between truth and falsehood, especially given the rampant spread of misinformation in today’s digital era. He highlighted the government’s initiatives in tackling various challenges and cautioned against the potential consequences of misleading information, which could lead to misguided decision-making.
Furthermore, he advised the audience to critically examine rumours and false information related to the People’s Military Service Law, emphasizing its crucial role in safeguarding the nation and underscoring the responsibility of every citizen in this regard.
As part of the event, lucky draws were held, with five direct-to-home satellite dishes and 100 MRTV set-top boxes awarded to participating students. A total of 520 students attended the talk. — MNA/NT
