Homalin tea leaf plantations produce over 300 visses per acre

Tea leaves have been cultivated in Homalin township for many years. Now, the growers are gradually expanding their cultivation, and it has now reached over 8,000 acres of tea leaf cultivation.

Tea leaf plantations made over 300 visses per acre in Homalin township, Sagaing region, it is learnt.
“Currently, the price of tea leaves is above K 800 per viss in the local market. Each acre of tea leaves yields over 300 visses. More than 2,000 growers from 33 village-tracts in Homalin Township are growing the tea leaves. There are also more than 8,000 acres of tea leaf plantations, said Daw Su Su Htway, the township head of the Agriculture Department in Homalin Township.

“Earlier, there were only over 6,000 acres of tea leaf cultivation. Then, the area of tea leaf plantation has dramatically increased year by year. This is the tea harvesting season, and the farmers started picking the tea leaves.
Earlier, Myanmar tea leaves were exported to the foreign market. Tea leaves are separated into various categories based upon taste and quality for local markets. In contrast, organic tea leaves aim to attract foreign buyers. — Lulay/GNLM
