National committee on prevention and response to sexual violence in conflict holds meeting (2/2021)

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held the second meeting of the National Committee for the Prevention and Response to Sexual Violence in Conflict yesterday morning in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the meeting, Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khine said the national-level action plan was discussed in the committee’s first meeting.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted suggestions on it. At the same time, it was further disseminated to the members of the National Committee for comment.
The meeting aimed to approve the discussions on the suggestions, and the national action plan will be submitted to the State Administration Council for approval.
The Vice-Chair of the committee, Deputy Minister for Defence, said the Myanmar Tatmadaw is abiding by military laws and regulations to prevent sexual violence during the conflict as well as by international laws such as international humanitarian law or war law.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs discussed his ministry’s suggestions on the national action plan on prevention and response of sexual violence in conflict.
The members of the National Committee participated in the discussion.
All National Committee members agreed on the discussion of the National Action Plan and decided to seek further approval. — MNA
