Illegal teak, foodstuffs, chemical items seized

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
On 3 March, a joint inspection team conducted a search operation at the 16-mile Kyaukchaw Inspection Station under the management of the Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force.
One Scania 22-wheeler truck (estimated at K50,000,000) was seized for carrying illegal goods and action is taken under the Customs Law.
Similarly, under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, Lashio Township Customs Team carried out inspection near the Tangyang Junction of Mandalay-Lashio Union Highway on 10 March,
One truck carrying LEDIAN branded beers (estimated at K39,950,000) and one 12-wheeler truck carrying the food items (estimated at K70,000,000) leaving Tangyang for Lashio were seized and action is taken under the Customs Law.
Similarly, port duty customs team conducted an inspection at the Myanmar Industrial Port Container Inspection Station of Yangon Region on 10 March.
Illegal raw materials used in food production (estimated at K38,400,000) not listed on the import declaration (ID) were seized on 10 March.
On 11 March, an Investigation and Anti-Illegal Trade Division conducted an investigation and found construction materials, consumer goods and motorcycle engine oil (estimated at K198,678,100) were also seized.
On the same day, one container was inspected by the port duty team and electrical appliances, raw materials and pottery (estimated at K20,196,000) were seized and action is being taken in accordance with the customs law.
In addition, on 11 March, Port Customs made an inspection at the Asia World Container Terminal Checkpoint and seized illegal chemical raw materials (estimated at K46,550,000) not listed on the import declaration (ID) and are prosecuted under the Customs Law.
Similarly, under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, a joint inspection team led by the State Forest Department seized 4.00544 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated at K280,378) in Chaungzon Township and action is taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, a total of nine arrests (approximately K464,054,478) were made on 3, 10 and 11 March, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
