Myanmar U-16 boy’s football team failed to make the final after the penalty decision of the ASEAN U-16 boy’s championship semi-final match against host Indonesia at Maguwoharjo Stadium in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Both teams played 1-1 draw till the 90 minutes.
There were no extra times and the winner was decided by shooting the penalty kicks.
The host team dominated over team Myanmar at the start but Myanmar’s defence was too strong for the opponents.
From the counter-attack, Myanmar made an icebreaker at 44 minutes and the goal was beautifully scored by Nay Min Htet.
Myanmar led the first half by 1-0.
Myanmar played more defensively in the second half but Indonesia found their equalizer at 70 minutes and the goal was scored by Riski Afrisal.
Both teams could not change their opportunities into goals till the final whistle.
Myanmar missed one goal during the penalty shootout and that mistake made the opponents advance to the final.
Myanmar will play the third-place match against the Thai team and Indonesia will take on Viet Nam for the championship trophy on 12 August. — GNLM
