Weekly update of kitchen grocery market

During the week ended 30 August, the prices of onion, palm oil, black gram, pigeon peas and chickpeas climbed up.
Onion
Approximately 96,000 visses of onions were supplied to Bayintnaung Wholesale Market on 29 August and the price went up. Onion wholesale prices continue to rise on 30 August, with a supply of 120,000 visses. The prices stood at K2,400 -3,000 per viss of onions from Seikphyu Township and K2,600-3,200 per viss of onions from Monywa Township. The prices increased from K2,200-2,900 per viss depending on varieties and sizes on 25 August. The onion prices reached the highest of K3,000 per viss in Seikphyu depot and K3,100 in Pakokku depot.
Potato
On 30 August, local Shan potatoes moved in the range of K1,300-2,100 per viss depending on qualities, while potatoes from China were valued at K1,950-2,000 per viss.
Garlic
Garlic produced in Aungban town, Shan State fetched K2,400-4,000 per viss depending on the size in wholesale markets, while Kyukok garlic variety peaked at K4,350 per viss.
Chilli pepper
Supply exceeds demand in the market. The wholesale prices of chilli pepper were K14,000 per viss, while the Moehtaung variety from the Pyawbwe area with some moisture content is priced at K13,500.
Palm oil
The wholesale reference price of palm oil in the Yangon Region is up by K50 per viss this week compared to the last week’s price.
The palm oil wholesale prices in the markets slipped to K8,800 per viss on 27 August. The palm oil price slightly rose to K9,100-9,200 per viss on 29 August.
Rice
In the week ended 30 August 2022, the prices of both high-grade and low-grade rice remained unchanged. The wholesale rice prices per bag were K75,000 per bag from the Myaungmya area and K72,000 from the Pyapon area. There is a price gap of K10,000 between Yangon and other regions and states.
Pawsan variety from Bogale Mawgyun area fetched only K65,000 per bag in Yangon wholesale markets and K55,000 in Mawgyun area.
Chickpea, black gram and pigeon pea
The prices of black gram and pigeon peas rebounded this week. On 30 August, pulses price stood at over K1,953,000 per tonne of black gram (Fair Average Quality/RC), K2,258,000 per tonne of black gram (Special Quality/RC) and K2,025,000 per tonne of pigeon pea (red gram) RC, whereas Chickpea prices rose to K4,300-4,500 per viss in the wholesale markets. — TWA/GNLM
