Illegal timbers, foodstuff, consumer goods, working materials and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Customs Procedures, an on-duty inspection team made inspections at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint on 3 September.
Officials nabbed K6,552,000 worth of edible oil and fabrics that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from two vehicles (approximately K108 million) and a trailer (approximately K25 million). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, on 4 September, a combined team under the Taninthayi Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted surprised checks and captured K2,524,000 worth of fishing nets and fishing lines without official documents near the Tawwin bridge in Kawthoung township. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 5 September, an on-duty team made inspections at the Thanlwin Bridge (Hpa-an) Combined Checkpoint and confiscated K3.9 million worth of edible oil without official documents from two vehicles (approximately K21 million). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, a total of 5.3294 tonnes of illegal teak and hardwood worth K2,114,480 were captured in Yedashe township of Toungoo district and Minhla township of Thayawady district. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 12 arrests estimated at K169,090,480 were made on three consecutive days from 3 to 5 September, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
