According to the agenda of the 21st ASEAN Economic Community Council meeting, which Cambodia is hosting as a rotating host, a Plenary Meeting of ASEAN Economic Community Council Ministers and ASEAN Energy Ministers, Ministers of Transport, Agriculture and Forestry Ministers was held in virtual format yesterday.
Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San attended the virtual event.
ASEAN Energy Ministers, Ministers of Transport, Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry and the Secretary General of ASEAN discussed plans to develop a strategy for ASEAN carbon reduction, sectoral cooperation, and assignment and work guidelines.
Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San said that Myanmar’s transport sector development is being implemented in line with the long-term National Transport Master Plan.
Establishing Myanmar’s climate change policy and master strategy to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals was also discussed.
Following the strategies, a national implementation plan for environmental protection of the transport sector is developed and carbon reduction in transport methods is discussed.
The need for sectoral assignment and collaboration on strategic planning, Greenhouse Gas emissions data collection and evaluations recommend, and human resource development needs were also deliberated.
Economic ministers from ASEAN member countries, Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministers of Transport, Deputy Minister U Aung Kyaw Tun and officials attended the virtual meeting. — MNA
