Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, consumer goods, industrial materials, motorbike spare parts and vehicles confiscated

Effective measures are being taken to control and prevent illicit trade under the law with the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. The combined team under the management of the Customs Department performed the following seizures on 24 February — four types of products including 400 cartons of Lactasoy without official documents (estimated value of K9.1 million) and a Higer express bus and a Yutong express bus used for transport (approximately K70 million) at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint, and two products including single-side decorative laminate paper (6,900 kilogrammes) for which no import licence can be submitted (estimated value of K49,224,705), and 1,125 kg of Brake Lever and 200 kg of Brake Handle which were not declared in the import declaration (ID) (approximated value of K3,339,000) from two containers at the Asia World Container Inspection Gate. The actions were taken under Customs procedures.
Likewise, the inspection team led by the Forestry Department under the management of the Sagaing Region Anti-Illegal Trade Special Task Force made inspections and impounded 8.124 tonnes of illegal timbers (approximately K1,218,660) in the Sonelamyaing Creek near the Kalay-Tamu Road. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 25 February, a joint team carried out inspections at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) joint inspection checkpoint under the management of the Karen State Anti-Illegal Trade Special Task Force. A total of 25 Karat toilet commodes (estimated value K2.5 million) which were not declared in the import declaration (ID) were seized from a vehicle heading from Myawaddy to Yangon, and the action was taken under Customs procedures.
Thus, a total of eight arrests with seizures worth approximately K135,382,365 were made on 24 and 25 February, according to the Eradication Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA/CT
