Myanmar weightlifting team to compete in 32nd Southeast Asian Games

An official from the Myanmar Weightlifting Federation said that Myanmar will compete in weightlifting at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, which will be hosted by Cambodia in 2023.
“Six weightlifters have been selected for the SEA Games, two men and four women have been selected in the preliminary round. We have tried to ensure that all six weightlifters can enter the competition.
“The host is allowed to compete in six classes in each of the seven classes for both men and women. “Therefore, the host has the right to compete in six of the 14 classes,” said U Thi Han, secretary of the Myanmar Weightlifting Federation. In the SEA Games, Myanmar Weightlifting Federation is intended to compete in the 45, 49, 59, and 71 kilogrammes classes for women and the 73, + 89 kg classes for men.
“Weightlifting is a sport that competes with records and is different from other sports.
“Therefore, in this game, we need to try to be able to compete with all classes.
“Thailand, Viet Nam, and the Philippines, which will be the main competitors, are the countries that won gold at the Olympics, so we are trying hard not to miss a medal,” the Myanmar Weightlifting Federation Secretary continued.
The Myanmar weightlifting team has been taking training since July 2022 at the Nay Pyi Taw Gold Camp twice a day, except for Sundays.
It is reported that the Myanmar weightlifting team has not missed a medals since the 1st Peninsular Games until the 31st SEA Games, except that the game was not included in the 1999 Brunei Games and the 2015 Singapore Games. — Bala Soe/KZL
