Collective cleanup, rehabilitation activities performed on main roads, urban areas of Sittway

Rehabilitation activities are being carried out in Rakhine State, which was hit by a storm on 14 May. Members of the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force, Fire Services Department, departmental staff, and residents conducted cleanup and rehabilitation tasks yesterday morning for the regular improvement of traffic and communication routes in Sittway’s main roads and neighbourhoods.
In repairing damaged buildings in Sittway, schools and universities are being restored as a high priority before the opening of schools on 1 June. The 500-bed general hospital and religious buildings have also been restored by departmental officials.
Likewise, to ensure that the urban population has enough clean drinking water, the Department of Rural Development is distributing drinking water with mobile water purifiers that can supply 660 gallons of water per hour.
To get electricity in the city as soon as possible, the employees of the relevant ministries replaced and erected the lamp posts that had fallen due to the storm using large machines, performed transmission of electric cables, cleared dangerous power lines, replaced and installed new communication cables to restore communication and re-installed communication towers.
Military personnel, members of the Myanmar Police Force, and the Fire Services Department cooperated in clearing up fallen trees, cutting down dangerous trees, clearing bushes, and conducting collective cleaning activities in the precinct of the Lawkananda Pagoda (Sittway).
In addition, foodstuffs, medicines, medical supplies, rescue equipment, and construction equipment needed by storm victims in Sittway are delivered daily by military aircraft, vessels, and vehicles. To facilitate the travel of the local people, passenger flights have been running regularly since 18 May.
Members of the Fire Services Department, departmental staff, and residents are working together daily to perform debris clearance and rehabilitation measures in Rathedaung, Kyauktaw, Ponnagyun, and Pauktaw townships that were severely affected by the storm. — MNA/CT
