Myanmar National Human Rights Commission attends AICHR-SEANF meeting

The MNHRC delegation join the online AICHR-SEANF meeting on 23 May.

The meeting between the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights -AICHR and the Southeast Asia National Human Rights Forum-SEANF was held in a hybrid format on Bali Island in Indonesia on 24 May.
Representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Chairman U Hla Myint of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission and members U Paw Lwin Sein and Dr Tin Maung Maung Than, Deputy Director-General Dr Khine Khine Win and Director U Zeya Lin attended the meeting virtually and the representatives from Timor-Leste and AICHR in person.
The AICHR Indonesia and the Thai National Human Rights Commission, the alternate chair of SEANF, gave opening speeches at the meeting. The AICHR Indonesia discussed the activities and priorities of AICHR in 2023 and the Thai National Human Rights Commission chairperson discussed the undertakings and progress of SEANF.
Afterwards, representatives from Malaysia, Timor-Leste, the Philippines and Indonesia discussed matters on the implementation of torture prevention, economy and human rights and the convention on the rights of the elderly.
In the discussion, the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission chairperson said that they would participate much more than before in the future cooperation between AICHR and SEANF presented by the Malaysian Human Rights Commission. — MNA/MKKS
