Kyaikto Public Hospital successfully operated a month-old child’s apple-sized pus lump on head from infection after shaving on 13 December.
The child who was born in Taungkalay village was accidently cut on head when shaving and parents tried to stop bleeding by chewing herbal leaves and turmeric powder and covered the wound. The infected-wound got worse and the child even couldn’t take breastfeeding, according to the hospital.
The tradition that newborn’s hair must be shaved and children’s heads need to be shaved to make their hair grow healthy is just a common belief, but unnecessary for health, said the hospital.
Children can easily tend to suffer cough, runny nose and nasal congestion when shaving as their head controls their body temperature, according the hospital.
The hospital suggested that shaving is risky for newborn babies who can’t hold their head themselves and shaving should be done if necessary when they can sit up. MT/ZS, Photo- Kyaikto Public Hospital
