Authorities seize illegal timber, fruits, vehicles, consumer goods

Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, action is being taken against illegal trades.
On 18 January, Kawkareik District Anti-Drug Enforcement Division in Kayin State inspected the vehicles that were going to Hpa-an by bypassing the Kawkareik (Tatarkyo) checkpoint.
During the inspection, two vehicles carrying illegal fruits (estimated value of K34,217,500) were seized and action is taken as per the rules and regulations of the Customs Department. On the same day, the Customs Department in Mandalay Region seized a vehicle carrying consumer goods (estimated value of K8,760,000) accordingly to the Department’s rules and regulations.
Yesterday, a combined task force under the management of the Illegal Trade Eradication Special Force arrested an unregistered vehicle (estimated value of K6,000,000) in Shwebo Township and five tonnes of teak in Mawlaik Township (estimated value of K750,000).
The vehicle was confiscated in line with the procedures of the Myanmar Police Force and the teak is under control according to the procedures of the Forest Department.
Similarly, a combined task force led by the Department of Forest in Bago Region inspected the forest reserves in Bago, Toungoo and Thayawady districts and reportedly seized 13.7122 tonnes of illegal teak (estimated value of K3,027,760) and 6.4548 tonnes of hardwood (estimated value of K881,920), altogether 20.167 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated value of K3,909,680) under the rules and regulations of the Department. On 18 and 19 January, there was a total of nine cases (estimated value of K53,637,180), the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee stated. — MNA
