Ayeyawady Region achieves significant paddy cultivation milestones

A total of 3,757,805 acres of monsoon paddy cultivation and 1,457,288 acres of summer paddy plantations have been completed in Ayeyawady Region. There are 17 million acres of paddy plantations nationwide.
The amount planted in Ayeyawady Region is reportedly almost 30 per cent of the paddy cultivation across the country.
Among the eight districts in the Ayeyawady Region, Pyapon district, which includes four townships, is the largest in the cultivation of both monsoon and summer paddy. There are 5,200,000 acres of monsoon and summer paddy, and about 24 per cent of monsoon and summer paddy is planted in Pyapon district. A total of 878,325 acres of monsoon paddy and 411,027 acres of summer paddy were grown in Pyapon district in 2023.
In addition to summer paddy, beans and chilli are grown in this region as summer crop after monsoon paddy. In Ayeyawady Region, crops are cultivated mainly by rivers and rainwater. There are some dams that supply agricultural water in the upper part of the region, and dams have been built to prevent the flow seawater into the Labutta and Pyapon districts. — TWA/MKKS
