The MoI Deputy Minister chairs the coordination meeting 1/2021 of the Myanmar Child Labour Eradication on Knowledge Dissemination and Capacity-Building Working Committee in Nay Pyi Taw on 29 September 2021.

The Myanmar Child Labour Eradication on Knowledge Dissemination and Capacity-Building Working Committee held its coordination meeting 1/2021 at the Ministry of Information yesterday afternoon in Nay Pyi Taw. Chairman of the working committee Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint and officials attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Chairman of the Working Committee Deputy Minister U Ye Tint said child labour includes works that can have a negative impact on the physical, mental and social development of the child; works that disrupt the education of the child; works that block access to school; works that cause the child to drop out of school prematurely; and children who have to do hard work for a long period of time after school.
He said it is necessary to prevent the loss of children’s rights and inability to go to school while they are young. As young people are the future of the nation, parents, teachers and responsible persons need to nurture and train them to become strong people who can develop the country.
He said the working committee must accelerate the elimination of child labour and capacity building to protect children from working dangerous works by the time they have to be at school, to not let them economically exploited, and to prevent premature dropouts.
Priority project areas have been identified in areas such as Yangon Region, Bago Region, Ayeyawady Region, Mon State, and Kayin State, where Complaint Centres and Hotlines have been set up to eliminate child labour, to carry out awareness-raising activities, and to provide assistance effectively. He called on the people to work together to provide education so that they have chance to learn education instead of going to work.
Afterwards, Secretary of the Working Committee, Director-General of the Factories and General Labour Laws Inspection Department U Nyunt Win and attendees presented the activities to be implemented for the awareness-raising activities for the elimination of child labour, and capacity building, and the Deputy Minister concluded the meeting. — MNA
