Working committees on AEC 2025 implementation hold 1/2024 meeting

The meeting of working committees on the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2025 was held yesterday at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Kan Zaw, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, directors-general and representatives from 22 AEC committees.
At the meeting, the Union minister said the regional economies had grown faster than the economy in 2023, and it is expected to gain such progress in 2024. It is essential to connect the Supply Chain Network with the Global Production Network to accelerate the regional economies, and the respective working committees should cooperate with the ASEAN countries in connecting these two networks.
He also talked about 14 Priorities Economic Deliverables (PEDs) put forward by Laos in 2024 and 113 Annual Priorities (APs) by ACE.
He added that the country should grasp the chances that can bring progress to the country in implementing the AEC work plans and should make preparations.
Moreover, it also needs to implement the plans in accordance with the policies by reviewing the capacity of the country in various sectors, including the manufacturing, services and investment sectors, while ASEAN is established as a single market and production base.
Then, the director-general of the Foreign Economic Relations Department ASEAN Senior Economic Official explained the discussions of the 30th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat, and work plans to be conducted in 2024, and deputy ministers and officials briefed the drafting of the 2026-2030 AEC strategic plan, cooperation in carrying out ASEAN agenda effectively and AEC 2025 review of ASEAN Secretariat.
