Green gram (Shwe Wah) variety is found in abundant supply these days in the Mandalay market, Mandalay bean traders said.
The green grams from Monywa, Shwebo, Myaung and Myinmu townships enter the Mandalay market. The newly harvested green grams are commercially valued due to their high quality. Last year, the price of green grams stood at only K100,000 per three-basket bag, whereas it touches a high of K120,000 per bag at present.
“The yield rate is regular this year. The green grams produced in Yangon Region will also get to the Mandalay market soon. Mandalay is the central market for green grams. Chinese buyers come to purchase in Mandalay every day as some Sino-Myanmar border posts resume operations. Additionally, the use of Yuan or Kyat in the bilateral transaction is officially allowed in the border areas between Myanmar and China in a bid to encourage trade. We expect a brisk market in future,” said Soe Win Myint beans and pulses warehouse owner.
The prices of beans in the Mandalay market are estimated at K145,000 per three-basket bag for Japanese white sesame, K135,000 for white sesame, K195,000 for black sesame, K145,000 for black-eyed peas and K2,950 per viss for peanut. — Min Htet Aung (Mandalay Sub-Printing House)/GNLM
