An on-duty team under the supervision of the Customs Department conducted inspections on 17 December at the Mayanchaung Permanent checkpoint in Mon State.
Officials captured 2,500 kilogrammes of MDF boards (medium-density fibreboard) worth K2.1 million that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a Cheng Long, tractor head and a trailer (estimated value of K115 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon. Similarly, on 18 December, officials confiscated 5,000 kilogrammes of Asphalt drums worth K6,018,600 without official documents from a Mitsubishi Canter light truck (approximately K25 million) near Kywechangon village in Mawlamyine township. The action was taken in line with Customs procedures.
In addition, on 18 December, a combined team led by the Region Customs Department seized K7,066,500 worth of foodstuffs, industrial materials and consumer goods without official documents from a Yutong car (estimated value of K58 million) on the Yangon-Mandalay expressway and K71,336,600 worth of foodstuffs and consumer goods without official documents from a Yutong car (estimated value of K58 million) in Power-5 bus station compound. The action was taken according to Customs procedures.
On 19 December, a total of five unregistered vehicles worth K20.5 million in DaikU township were seized and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
At the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined checkpoint, officials confiscated 95 rice cookers worth K1.9 million without official documents from a vehicle from Myawady to Yangon and the action was taken in accordance with Customs procedures.
Therefore, 23 arrests (estimated value of K364,921,700) were made on three consecutive days from 17 to 19 December, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
