Illegal teak, foodstuffs, consumer goods and vehicles confiscated

Officials check confiscated illegal commodities in Shan State.

Supervised by the Shan State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force, a combined team led by the Lashio Township Customs Department conducted inspections on 31 December.
Officials captured K30,768,400 worth of clothes, foodstuffs and consumer goods without official documents from two vehicles (approximately K27 million) near Shwenyaungpin on detour to Lashio. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
On 1 January, a combined team confiscated illegal homemade alcohol and beer worth K169,000 in Falam, Mindat, Tonzang and Paletwa townships. The action was taken under the Chin Special Division Act.
In addition, a total of 1.0644 tonnes of illegal sawn teak worth K464,904 was captured in Yedashe township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 12 arrests (estimated value of K58,402,304) were made on 31 December and 1 January, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.— MNA/MKKS
