Illegal timbers, construction materials, raw jade, fuel oil and vehicles seized

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Chairman of the Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force, an on-duty team conducted inspections.
Officials confiscated a total of 0.8972 tonne of illegal teak worth K592,152 in Taungup on 28 June. The action was taken under the Forest Law. Similarly, a team led by Myanmar Police Force made inspections and captured a Honda Fit car worth K3 million in Phayagyi township on 29 June under the supervision of the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
In addition, a total of 22.2116 tonnes of teak and hardwood timber at an estimated value of K9,026,672 were captured in Bago and Toungoo districts on 1 July. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 30 June, an on-duty team confiscated K23,715,020 worth of tiles which had arrived 71 days before a permit licence was granted despite the same Import Declaration (ID) at the container terminal of the Myanmar International Port (Thilawa) and K775,000 worth of electronics that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) at the Myanmar Industrial Port Container Checkpoint. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, a combined on-duty team conducted inspections at the Myawady Trade Zone under the Kayin State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force. They confiscated 500 kilogrammes of barb wire worth K1.2 million without any official documents and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, on 1 July, an unregistered X-trail car (approximately K8 million) was captured in Sagaing township, and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law. Afterwards, 28 gallons and three litres of illegal fuel oil (approximately K359,200) were captured in Kalay township, and the action was taken under the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Law. In addition, a combined team led by the Myanmar Police Force seized 110 kilogrammes of uncut jade from a vehicle heading from Lonekhin village to Nantyar village. The action was taken under the Myanmar Gemstone Law.
Therefore, 15 arrests (approximately K47,122,044) were made on four consecutive days from 28 June to 1 July, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.— MNA
