Illegal timbers, food items, consumer goods, vehicles seized

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, action is being taken under the law against illegal trades across the country.
On 18 March, a combined inspection team led by the Secretary of the Yangon Region Anti-Illegal Trade Special Task Force conducted surprise checks at the Minlwinkon checkpoint in Hlegu Township, Yangon, and seized illegal cooking gas cylinders (estimated value of K4,800,000) under the Customs Law.
A combined inspection team led by the Yangon Region Department of Forestry also conducted inspections and seized a six-wheel truck carrying 8.742 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K35,411,940) near Milestone (18/5) on the Yangon-Mandalay expressway in Hlegu Township under the Forest Law.
Similarly, on 20 March, fruits in excess of the import declaration (ID) (estimated value of K2,454,100) from two vehicles driven from Myawady to Mandalay were confiscated at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint.
Similarly, a 10-wheel truck carrying illegal food items (estimated value of K52,450,000) was seized at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint in Kayin State and action is taken under the Customs Law.
In addition, on 21 March, 34.3706 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K3,696,874) were seized in the Myautzarmari forest reserve in Thayawady District in Bago Region under the Forest Law.
Therefore, on 18, 20 and 21 March, a total of nine arrests was made (estimated value of K94,012,914), according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
