Officials seize illegal timbers in Bago Region.

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Chairman of the Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force, a combined inspection team made inspections in Kawthoung and Myeik townships, Taninthayi Region from 9 June to 13 June.
They seized 803 bags of fertilizer without payments for Customs duties at an estimated value of K64.24 million and 3,257 bags of cement without payments for Customs duties (approximately K26,707,400). The effective action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, they captured 9.5 tonnes of lead (material) worth K322,190,000 and action was taken under the Myanmar Mines Law.
On 11 June, the inspection team confiscated 2,600 gallons of fuel oil at an estimated value of K13 million in Pakokku township and the action was taken under the Myanmar Petroleum and Petroleum Products Law.
Afterwards, various rainy sandals worth K4,032,000 without official documents from a truck at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Checkpoint, under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, inspections were carried out under the supervision of the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force on 13 June.
They seized K15,261,000 worth of auto parts that showed no official documents from a Nissan Diesel 12-wheel truck (approximately K25 million) and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 15 June, the combined team led by Myanmar Police Force under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted inspections.
A team led by the Forest Department confiscated a total of 5.2208 tonnes of illegal timbers at an estimated value of K2,870,464 in Toungoo and Pyay Districts and action was taken under the Forest Law.
Three unregistered vehicles (approximately K11,500,000) were seized in Sagaing and Khamti townships and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
In addition, the Forest Department team captured a total of 2.8266 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K197,862 in Sittway Township. The action was prosecuted under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 18 arrests (approximately K484,998,726) were made on 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 15 June, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
