SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
An on-duty team under the supervision of the Customs Department conducted inspections at the Myanmar Industrial Port Container Checkpoint on 7 October.
Officials confiscated 1,800 kilogrammes of fabric worth K2,494,800 that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, a combined inspection team at the 16th-mile Kyaukchaw Checkpoint captured K15,665,000 worth of suspected pesticides without official documents from a Dongfeng Dump truck (estimated value of K20 million) heading from Mandalay to Omathi-Omakha. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 8 October, an inspection team led by Myanmar Police Force seized an unregistered motorbike (approximately K200,000) and an unregistered car (approximately K3 million). The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
Similarly, the inspection teams led by the Region Forest Department under the management of the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force nabbed a total of 12.3880 tonnes of illegal timbers in Bago and Toungoo districts and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, seven arrests (estimated value of K46,896,040) were made on 7 and 8 October, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
