Illegal vehicles, teak seized this week

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trades under the law.
On 14 February, a combined inspection team from the Customs Department and the responsible departments at the Mayanchaung Permanent checkpoint conducted a surprise inspection.
One unregistered Hino Ranger Tractor Head 18 wheeler vehicle (estimated value of K25,000,000) was seized and action is taken under the Import and Export Law.
Similarly, a combined inspection team of the Customs Department from the Yaypu permanent checkpoint, and the responsible departments inspected 5J/2873 mini-bus (estimated value of K29,490,000) and various types of food items without any official documents (estimated value of K12,000,000) and (total estimated value of K41,490,000) were seized.
Action is taken under the Customs Law.
In addition, a combined inspection team under the management of the Rakhine State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted a surprise inspection. A total of 28,813 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K2,016,938) were seized in Taungup and Gwa townships, and action is taken under the Forest Law.
On 15 February, a combined inspection team under the management of the Sagaing Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force seized 11.315 tonnes (approximately K565,750) in Tamu and Mawlaik townships and action is taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, a combined team of the Bago Region Forest Department reportedly seized 3.1122 tonnes of illegal timbers (approximately K668,800) in the forest reserves in the Bago and Toungoo districts and action is taken under the Forest Law.
As a result, a total of 13 arrests were made on 14 and 15 February and the estimated value is K69,741,488, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
