MoHT Union Minister attends “Tourism Vs Statistics” workshop

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung presided over a virtual “Tourism Vs Statistics” workshop yesterday.
The online workshop was joined by the president of the Myanmar Tourism Federation, officials of travel agencies, teachers of the National Management Degree College and Mandalar University, officials of the Enlightened Myanmar Research Foundation and guests among others.
During the event, the Union minister talked about the instructions of the State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister to keep the data of the ministries with systematic data record to be up to date, intensions of the workshop, digit expression on tourist arrivals and expenditure, cooperation works to ensure tourism development being a member country of UNWTO, PATA and WTTC, efforts of world countries to resume the outbound tours after running the inbound tours despite the COVID-19 impacts on tourism and systematic data collection on tourism-related sectors.
Then, Myanmar Tourism Federation President U Yan Win, Director Daw Nwe Ni Win of the Central Bank of Myanmar, Director Daw Ni Ni Myint of the Central Statistical Organization and Research Manager Dr Khin Myo Wai of the Enlightened Myanmar Research Foundation discussed their relevant sectors.
The officials then presented their discussions in four groups under four topics – tourism statistics, ASEAN and Greater Mekong tourism statistics, Tourism Satellite Account and tourism data collection and research.
Then, the Patron of the workshop Deputy Director-General U Aung Aye Han briefed all on the discussions and the Union minister concluded the event.
The Union minister received Mr Zhang Jun, president of the China-based South Asia Future Investment Group Pte. Ltd at noon and exchanged views on tourism investment and cooperation between Myanmar and China, tourism development programmes in Myeik Archipelago and other work plans. — MNA
