Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received a peace delegation led by Chairman Saw Htaw Lay of the Karen National Liberation Army (Peace Council) KNU/KNLA (PC) at the parlour of Bayintnaung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning to talk about peace issues.
Also present at the talks was Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Council members General Mya Tun Oo, Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun and Lt-Gen Yar Pyae. The Chairman of Karen National Liberation Army (Peace Council) KNU/KNLA (PC) was accompanied by Vice-Chair Naw Kapaw Htoo and Central Executive Committee Member Saw Maung Maung.
At the talks, the Senior General explained it is necessary to focus on the interests of the Union as regions and states are inhabited not only by a single ethnicity but by all ethnicities as a Union. He also discussed the need to consider the development of relevant ethnics, regions and states only when the country restores peace can the state-building and nation-building tasks be speeded up, and implementation of the tasks for uplifting the education standards across the nation including ethnic regions as it is necessary to emerge the well-versed human resources in order to exercise democracy, the realization of multiparty democracy in conformity with the people’s desire, and building the Union based on democracy and federalism.
The Chairman of Karen National Liberation Army (Peace Council) KNU/KNLA (PC) and the party discussed the same attitudes on exercising the multiparty democratic system, and building the Union based on democracy and federalism and reported on regional development measures. Then, they frankly exchanged views of the same attitudes on peace issues and regional development tasks.
After the talks, the Senior General presented gifts to the Chairman of Karen National Liberation Army (Peace Council) KNU/KNLA (PC) and the party and posed for documentary photos.
The Chairman of Karen National Liberation Army (Peace Council) KNU/KNLA (PC)and party will hold peace talks with the Peace Talks Team and the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee formed with members of the State Administration Council. — MNA
