Light silverware that can be carried easily is produced in the domestic souvenir market, according to U Aung Kyaw Oo, the owner of Aung Kyaw Oo Silverware shop in Mingala Taungnyunt Township, Yangon.
“The domestic use of copperware surpasses that of silverware, indicating a limited market for the silver industry. Large silverware items are more challenging to procure, and there are limitations on exporting them to other countries. Consequently, there exists a market for mementoes. However, market conditions could shift if international buyers gain access to silverware in sizes convenient for transportation. At present, we exclusively produce silverware as gifts for the domestic market,” U Aung Kyaw Oo said.
Moreover, we are currently manufacturing 3D-designed silver statuettes and Zattawgyi statuettes (pre-Buddhahood dramas). These silverware items are competitive within the global silverware industry. Myanmar’s silverware is renowned compared to those from other regions. The silverware industry is poised for resurgence once these artisans can engage in successful trading.
