Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung attended the Awareness Programme on Service Jobs and Skills Assessment for Banking Services and Microfinance Services in Ottara District and Dekkhina District in Nay Pyi Taw via videoconferencing yesterday.
At the meeting, the Union minister said that the hotels and tourism sector was playing an important role in the service sector in setting the “standard” for Myanmar workers’ skills, which is overseen by the Ministry of Labour.
“As the tourism industry is a self-contained business, the skills of the workers are important,” the Union minister said.
“Not only the Ministry but also all departments must work together to implement the human resources development of the country.
“Systematic development of small and medium enterprises in various sectors can be supported by the production of skilled workers in each sector and the systematic recording and certification of hierarchical statistics,” the Union minister added.
The Union minister said efforts should be made to standardize skills in line with ASEAN standards in order to provide quality services.
Next, the Director-General and the Deputy Director-General from the Department of Labour explained the skills assessment process for service jobs, setting the standards for Myanmar workers’ skills.
Participants in the meeting discussed sector-wise matters and the meeting was concluded. The Directors-General and Deputy Directors-General from the Department of Labour, Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, officials from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, Myanmar Tourism Federation and Myanmar Hoteliers Association, business persons from Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory Hotel businesses in Ottara and Dekkhina districts, and entrepreneurs from the banking and microfinance industries participated through the videoconferencing.—MNA
