The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation designated the area of 8,841 acres in Mansi Township, Bhamo District in Kachin State, as Monghein (expanded) protected public forest on 20 October 2023, under the Forest Law promulgated in September 2018.
And also, the ministry confirmed the area of 1,424 acres in Palaw Township, Myeik District in Taninthayi Region, as “Pyinbugyi-2 protected public mangrove forest the same day, under Notification No 126/2023 by exercising the authority conferred under Sub-section (e) of Section (6) of the Forest Law promulgated in 2018.
Such forests aim to protect rare species of flora and fauna and create chances for local people to extract timber and forest products for their living standards. Thanks to the forests, wild animals can inhabit the forests as their safe places whereas rare species of plants can thrive as part of environmental conservation. — TWA/KZW
